Visit the Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Familia is an architectural marvel to which its architect, Antoni Gaudí, dedicated 43 years of his life. His goal was always to create the perfect temple, so when the works are completed, scheduled for 2026, on the centenary of his death when it will become the tallest structure in Barcelona and the tallest church in the world.

Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005, this Barcelona icon, loved by locals and tourists alike, is the most visited building in the city, with about 20 million visitors each year, of which 4 to 5 million enter the temple. It is without doubt the most famous unfinished monument in the world.

Visit Park Güell

Parc Güell, one of Antoni Gaudí’s most important creations and a World Heritage Site since 1984. This enormous green space located on Carmel Hill is a masterpiece covering over 18 hectares, and is another example of how the genius always wanted to integrate nature into all of his works.

This park is full of emblems. Notably the stone columns that suggest palm trees, stalactites and natural caves; the dragon, which can be found on the main staircase, made using the “trencadís” technique, the Guard House; the Hypostyle Hall or the immense plaza surrounded by a multicoloured serpentine bench.

Visit museums and art galleries

Barcelona is home to very important museums and art galleries not to be missed. Among the most recommended museums are the Picasso Museum, the Fundació Joan Miró, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the MOCO Museum, CaixaForum Barcelona or the Can Framis Museum. BAUM Fest

From October 6 to 8, the BAUM Fest will take place, one of the most important events of the year for all lovers of art and urban culture. It encompasses some of the most significant disciplines, arts and proposals from the “Art & Urban Movement”, including everything from tattoo exhibitions to breakdancing and extreme sports, among many other activities.

Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival

October 7 to October 17 sees the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival. One of the most recognized film events in Europe, and the first fantasy film festival in the world. The cultural event with the most media impact in Catalonia, this festival takes place in the beautiful coastal town of Sitges. This small gem is perfect to visit all year round, but even more so in October, when it hosts this exciting festival, which screens a selection of the best new work and rewards actors, filmmakers and the films themselves.

Oktoberfest

From October 4 to 15 comes the famous popular beer festival, which is celebrated in the purest German style, in Plaza Universo at Fira Barcelona Montjuïc, next to Plaza España. The main tent with more than 6,500 m2 has limited capacity, so it is advisable to reserve a table in advance. Of course, you can enjoy live music with polka music groups and DJs, as well as the best Bavarian cuisine.

Collserola Natural Park

The Collserola park is natural heritage of incalculable value. Covering more than 8,000 hectares it is considered the largest metropolitan park in the country. Explore it yourself or follow one of the many recommended hiking routes.

Getting lost in the Horta Labyrinth
