With a tradition dating back to long before the establishment of Christianity, la Verbena of Sant Joan is a cult of the sun and the lengthening of the day over the summer solstice. It is celebrated on the night of the 23rd June and is one of Barcelona’s great traditions. Fires, fireworks and coca de Sant Joan are the main protagonists of the Verbena.
One of the best places to celebrate the Verbena is the terrace of the Skybar of Grand Hotel Central, with its unbeatable views over the city.
