The four major summer festivals

Barcelona is preparing for a summer of rhythms that will fill the city with sounds from all over the world. From electronic beats on the beach to classical melodies in historical settings, the Catalan capital becomes a musical epicentre that attracts music lovers of all ages and tastes. With a wide ranging programme, some festivals stand out as essential, offering a palette that embraces pop, urban music, electronic, rock and classical music.

But these events go far beyond just concerts. They are authentic immersive experiences that invite you to spend all day there. There are rest areas, activities designed for families, innovative workshops that connect music with technology and spaces that promote interaction between artists and the public. Gastronomic diversity also plays an important role: from food trucks with local and international cuisine all with vegetarian and vegan options. There is commitment to renewable energy, biodegradable materials and the reduction of single-use plastics, reflecting the city’s drive  to responsible and conscious leisure.

Primavera Sound: pop and diversity in the Parc del Fòrum

Primavera Sound 2025 will return to the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona from June 4 to 8, reaffirming its position as one of the most influential music festivals in Europe. This edition presents a program that covers a wide variety of styles with a clear commitment to inclusion. The poster includes names such as Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, icons of contemporary pop, along with bands such as LCD Soundsystem, HAIM, La Casa Azul, Fontaines D.C. and Beach House.

The programme is not limited to the Forum venue: from 2 to 8 June, Primavera a la Ciutat will bring concerts to various Barcelona venues such as Apolo, Razzmatazz, Paral·lel 62, LAUT, La Nau and Enfants. They will host artists such as Nilüfer Yanya, Kneecap, Peter Doherty, Tinariwen and Allie X, and complement the official programming with a wide variety of styles. At the same time, Primavera Pro will organise 22 free-of-charge concerts at the CCCB on 5, 6 and 7 June, with emerging musicians from places as diverse as South Korea, France, Ireland and Argentina.

Sónar Barcelona: electronics and digital creativity

Sónar Barcelona 2025 will be held between June 12 and 14, making the city a world centre of electronic music and digital innovation. The festival is divided into two large spaces: Sónar by Day and Sónar by Night. The first, at Fira Montjuïc, offers concerts, showcases and Sónar+D, with debates and activities on artificial intelligence, augmented reality and new formats for musical creation. The second, at Fira Gran Via, transforms the space into an immense dance floor with sessions by the best international DJs.

This year, the poster includes prominent artists such as Nathy Peluso, Alizzz, BICEP, Peggy Gou, Hiroko Yamamura and Kerri Chandler. Skrillex b2b Blawan, Baldman, Dengue Dengue Dengue and Max Cooper, among many others. For its part, the AI & Music powered by S+T+ARTS, an initiative of the European Commission, presents a program with performances, talks, master classes and workshops that explore the links between machine learning and musical creation.

Classic on the beach: symphonic melodies by the sea.

Organised by Barcelona Obertura, in collaboration with L’Auditori, Palau de la Música Catalana and Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Classic Festival on the Beach is an essential event for lovers of symphonic music. Every summer Sant Sebastià Beach is transformed into a great stage open to the sea. With the sunset as a setting and the sea breeze as a companion. The audience will enjoy classical works performed by the Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra.

The aim of this event is to bring classical music to all citizens, with free concerts and a program for all audiences. But its social aspect goes further: the children’s choirs of the Orfeó Català perform in nursing homes, while the Palau Chamber Choir offers concerts in hospitals such as the Hospital del Mar, ensuring the music also reaches those who cannot go to the beach.

Cruïlla Festival: musical diversity with a Mediterranean spirit

The Cruïlla 2025 Festival takes place from July 9th to 12th in the Parc del Fòrum and will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a luxury program. Its poster brings together great names such as Alanis Morissette, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Texas, Ben Harper & The innocent criminals, Love of Lesbian (with a special double concert) or The Sex Pistols & Frank Carter. In addition, Crystal Fighters, Mikel Izal, Quimi Portet and León Benavente will also perform.

Cruïlla has earned its reputation thanks to the diversity of styles. Pop, rock, indie, reggae, hip-hop and electronics all coexist in a program for all tastes and ages. But not everything is music: the festival offers humor shows, urban art, workshops and rest areas to make the venue a space to spend the whole day. It has a gastronomic side too, offering local dishes, menus for celiacs, vegetarians and vegans which reflect the culinary diversity of the city.

This wide range of festivals positions Barcelona as a musical destination par-excellence. A summer full of music, activities and culture make the city the place to enjoy a wide variety of live music in unique settings, styles and formats.
